Urmi foundation's implementation process is based on its 3 triad model which includes therapeutic, academic and capacity building based intervention having sound measurement and evaluation tools explaining its impact on the beneficiaries we work with. every programme follows a chain starts form assessment to impact evaluation carefully designed and implemented by RCI registered, trained special educators and psychologists.
Programme Implementation Process
Art therapy is a therapeutic technique that incorporates various fine art forms like music, colouring, paper craft and performance art leading to academic foundation creating interesting and engaging activities, such as eye hand coordination, attention span, instruction understanding and following etc. This helps special children to build social and academic skills. Art therapy helps them to be independent physically and emotionally and become a part of mainstream society.
The Special education program aims at uplifting the academic performance of special children. The academics for special education are designed to ensure an environment that allows them to receive an effective education and later be considered as a part of the mainstream society. This program is a collaborative effort of Urmi foundation’s trained RCI registered special educators and BMC school teachers, who have jointly designed a curriculum touching upon 5 significant areas of learning which are personal, social, vocational, recreational and academic. These tools guide the special educators to hone the academic performance of special children. Special Education program has over the years proved its mettle by raising the academic performance to every child enrolled with us.
Speech therapy program is an intervention service that focuses on improving speech and comprehending abilities of a special child that ables them to understand and express verbal and nonverbal communication.Speech therapy uses concepts such as coordinating the mouth to produce sounds, to form words and sentences, through gestures to address articulation, communication, fluency, and voice volume regulation. In order to create an understanding of language and expressions we use written as well as pictorial representations to help develop cognitive skills of a special child. Children who have language issues have benefited socially, emotionally and academically from speech therapy program.
Our behavioural modification program aims at encouraging socially acceptable behaviour in children. We have built a module that influences their learning process by creating a supportive environment with the help of their parents and teachers. Physiological intervention is implemented by our psychologists which helps our children gain control over habits such as self injury.After a detailed assessment the program implements learning skills through ‘Reinforcement, Extinction, Shaping, Fading and Chaining methods. This intervention has increased our children's participation in social events which supports their social inclusion and academic learning.
Occupational therapy program aims at developing gross motor, visual perceptual and cognitive skills among special children to improve their ability to function and perform daily living activities such as dressing, eating and bathing. The main objective of occupational therapy is building physical skills to perform or gain physical independence. This program helps special children to attain physcial independence supportign their daily routines. Our home programme given to parents to maintain consistency of oocuaptionla therapy at home added benefict to child in long run.
Capacity Building Workshops
Capacity building programme aims at building skills needed to handle and nurture speical child in a more effective way. Having limited resoruces at the community special child care becomes difficult but we at Urmi solved this by providing cpapcity building workshops to the paretns. The workshops covers important toipics like nutrition, financial literacy, epilepsy, sex education, behaviour modification and spical child care etc. This initiative helpd paretns to access cheap and significnat information about disabled child care in a most easy to adopt method matching with their surroundings.
Parents counselling is a phychological intervention deals with emtotioal and social concern of the paretn having a disbaled child. The coping & accepting disability is a hurculean task takes a heavy tool on parents emotional weel being. This also affects their interperosnal relations and family environment and growth of the child. The counselling provide a paretns an opportunity to handletheir emtions in a more effective way with systematic counselliing suport given by trained counsellor. The ultimate imapct of this programme is visible on child growth and parents social and family appearance.
